WHY YOU SHOULD DO AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION BEFORE YOUR WEDDING. 

If you are searching for a wedding photographer, you might have seen that a lot of us offer engagement sessions. Besides the fact that we wanna offer you the opportunity to get some amazing images, there is a lot of good reasons why you should consider doing an engagement session before your wedding.

1. YOU MEET YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

While I always do a pre-wedding meeting with my clients it is hard to build the same rapport in the way a photo session can. It might sound like a simple reason, but as a wedding photographer, I will be with you through your entire wedding day. Building that rapport, and showing what I can do for you before the wedding builds the trust needed. I think we can all agree upon that trusting your wedding photographer is quite important.

2. PRACTICE MAKE PERFECT

You get to practice being in front of the camera with your partner. And I get to teach you so many tips and tricks on how to look your very best in your portraits. That experience and muscle memory you will obtain during an engagement session will save a lot of time doing the wedding day. The schedule during a wedding rarely goes according to plan, so not having to spend extra time learning about posing in front of the camera, will benefit you dearly. Also the more time we spend having fun and shooting instead of directing, the more images there will be for you after your big day.

3. WEDDING MATERIALS

You just had an amazing professional shoot. You got a lot of images that you adore. Now it is time to utilize them in all sorts of manners. It is only your imagination that limits you. How about you use your favourite engagement image on your “save the date” cards? You can also use the images to design a nice custom guestbook for your wedding. I have seen everything from wall art at the venue, to images on sticks as table decoration at the wedding. It is all up to you.

4. SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCT BEFORE IT COUNTS

Okay, this might need a bit of explanation. But after your wedding, when the guests have gone home, and the food and drinks are gone. Then the only thing you have left from the wedding beside the memories is your images. Because of that, they hold immense value for most brides and grooms. By doing an engagement session, not only do you get to test out the chemistry between you and the photographer, but you also get to test out the end product. It can be difficult to shop for wedding photography, and it is an impossible thing to do. An engagement session can show you what you can expect from your wedding photographer and his/her skill level.

5. ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS ARE MORE FLEXIBLE

During your wedding, there are a lot of things to consider. Mostly the time restraints, limit the possibilities. There might be a nice location, that you wanna use for your wedding portraits. But if it takes a long time to drive there, you take away precious time from your party. Sometimes we are can be limited by the wedding clothes. As a photographer, I will go great lengths to try and protect the clothes doing the portrait session, but going to a beach, or forest or just shooting on a rainy day are all things, that can make especially the wedding dress dirty. On an engagement session, we are not limited in the same ways. We can go and shoot at the time of day we want. We can have the clothes on as we please, and if you wanna run to the sea, it does not matter if you get wet.
